What you will be doing

Would you like to volunteer to visit a patient in their own home or phone them once a week/fortnight, to have a chat, share an activity or give a little neighbourly help?

Offering a small amount of your time will make a real difference to patients and their families and friends when they need it most.

No specific skills are required - just the ability to get on with people and a desire to help. St Raphael's Hospice will provide training and support.

As a Compassionate Neighbour you will only be asked to provide informal help to someone who lives within Sutton or Merton and won't be required to help with anything medical or related to personal hygiene.

All we ask is that you are aged over 18 and attend our training and support sessions.

How Long Do I Have To Volunteer For?

You need to commit to a regular volunteering opportunity of around an hour a week. The table below shows the commitment required for each level of the DofE.

Bronze

Minimum time: 3 or 6 months

You must do one of your volunteering, Physical or Skills sections for 6 months, the others for 3.

Silver

Minimum time: 6 or 12 months

If you heven't achieved your Bronze Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 12 months.

Gold

Minimum time: 12 or 18 months

If you heven't achieved your Silver Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 18 months.
