"MEMORY GARDENS" IS LOOKING FOR A VOLUNTEER TRUSTEE

COULD THIS BE YOU?

A small pioneering Early Intervention Special Needs Children's project,
is looking for a new Trustee

What we do:

We run Creative and Well-Being sessions for early year and primary age children with medical conditions and complex physical and communication needs in schools and early year settings. A large part of our work it to train School Carers in carefully attuning to the children under their care.

How we do it:

We are currently running a project a north London Special Needs school and a Children's Centre called " Hand and Sky". This is a nurturing and creative session for non-verbal children with Medical and Motor conditions or on the Autistic Spectrum. We work with parents and school Carers alongside the children with our Practitioner. We are funded presently by a Richard Cloudesley Charity Health Grant. This program is a Well-being Early Intervention aproach to Health that is lightihearted and Child-Centred.

We use the modalities of Music, Therapeutic Touch, Movement and Story-Telling to work with the imagination, emotions and need for self-expression that every child has.

Our background:

We began as an Arts Garden project in Islington (2002-2009) and we created clubs and adult courses for those on the autistic spectrum and/or with mental health difficulties.

Our development:

The schools outreach work is a continuation of our ethos using the arts and therapeutic touch as a bridge to communication and a foundation to Well-Being. We go into schools so that we can reach children with high needs whom we would not have been able to reach in the past.

The work in the Children's Centre is a new development over the past two years as a way to work directly with Families. This is an area we are looking to expand.

Who we are looking for:

We are looking for someone who has an affinity for this kind of work and for the children and carers we are working with. This may be through your personal experience of being a parent or Carer, through identifyong yourself as neurodiverse or a person with a disability or through your professional background. If you have a capacity to structure and plan with rigour and a creative vision and enthusiasm, this would help us enormously.

Volunteer Centre  Application Process

Volunteer Centre  Support you will receive

We began as a Self-help Community Organisation for people who are neurodiverse. We hold these people at the centre of our Organisation and adapt meetings and responsibilities of all who are involved so that we can be comfortable and at our optimum. That menas we build in rest times and keep verbal meetings short on-line. We also try to meet up once a year in an accesible Community Garden to honour our original ethos. We understand that how we relate as Trustees and Practitioners and so hold this Charity between us, is positively affected when we all touch base together within a positive and regenerative environment.
