Terms and conditions of VAL training courses


All courses are subsidised for voluntary and community groups and non-attendance means that this money is lost or that we can run fewer courses in future. In addition we often have waiting lists where places could be filled if appropriate notice of a cancellation is given.

All courses must now be paid for in advance and in full.

Cancellations must be made in writing, either e-mail, letter or fax, at least 10 working days before the date of the course.

If ten days notice is given we will return this fee; if not, and there is a late cancellation or a non-attendance, we will keep the amount.

You may delegate another member of your organisation to attend in your place rather than lose any fees.

We offer a full refund for cancelled course bookings providing our terms and conditions are met and we receive at least 10 working days notice.

With fewer than 10 working days notice you will be charged the full course fee.


VAL is pleased that we are able to offer bursaries for our training courses. Bursaries are available for courses provided by Voluntary Action Leeds, to organisations or groups with an annual income of less than £20,000 per year.

The training bursaries cover up to a maximum of £40 towards course fees, per person, limited to 2 people per organisation, per course. Any remaining course fee needs to be paid before the course runs; without the balance being paid we will not be able to confirm your place. Where a course costs less than £40 the place is free, however we need a refundable deposit of £10 per person to be paid in advance.

How to Apply

To apply for a bursary subsidised place on your chosen VAL training course, please complete the training bursary application form available on our website.

Return completed forms to VAL with supporting evidence of your organisation's income (the evidence we will accept is given on the form).

Once you have been awarded the bursary, we require either a £10 refundable deposit or the balance of the cost of the course to be paid by cash or cheque as soon as possible.

Without the deposit being paid in advance we will not award the bursay and you will be charged the full fee, if you are doing a late booking please ring us to confirm that you want to apply for the bursary and send us the form completed with your evidence as soon as possible.

Where bursaries have been awarded, in the event of cancellation less than 10 working days, we will keep the £10 refundable deposit or course balance payment.
