Community Garden Volunteer - Rugby

Purpose of the Role:
To lead and support gardening sessions for asylum-seeking families as part of a wider well-being and integration initiative. This role involves maintaining a small garden space, planting and growing seasonal vegetables and plants, and helping to engage families in hands-on gardening activities that promote connection to nature, routine, and community-building.

Main Tasks:
Support with the planning and maintenance of a small garden plot or green space

Lead or co-lead gardening sessions with small groups of families

Guide participants in planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting activities

Explain gardening tasks in simple and inclusive language

Create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere for all participants

Encourage teamwork and interaction between children and adults

Monitor safety and ensure that basic health and safety guidance is followed

Help with preparing and tidying the garden space as needed

Provide feedback to the Volunteer Coordinator about the sessions and any support needed

Some gardening experience (personal or professional) Ability to lead or facilitate group activities Friendly, approachable, and patient communication style Ability to adapt to different cultural backgrounds and language levels Willingness to work outdoors in a hands-on role A basic understanding of safeguarding and boundaries (training will be provided) DBS check will be required and supported by the organisation
