What you will be doing

The role involves carrying out maintenance repairs to bicycles including, brakes, tyres, lights etc. The repairs must be carried out on site using tools supplied by the repairer and the cycle must safe to use by the user after repair. The repairs must be carried out in a safe manner to protect the repairer, the public and other volunteers. Safety operating procedures must be followed at all times. The repairers may wish to demonstrate how they repair the cycle to members of the public to enable people to learn new skills or they may prefer to work in isolation. Advice & training can be provided to carry out repairs.

Skills Description

The Bike Repairers may need to work in a team solving approach to fix any item that may need specialist electrical, or electronic support. Lots of common sense in the fixing solution.

How Long Do I Have To Volunteer For?

You need to commit to a regular volunteering opportunity of around an hour a week. The table below shows the commitment required for each level of the DofE.

Bronze

Minimum time: 3 or 6 months

You must do one of your volunteering, Physical or Skills sections for 6 months, the others for 3.

Silver

Minimum time: 6 or 12 months

If you heven't achieved your Bronze Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 12 months.

Gold

Minimum time: 12 or 18 months

If you heven't achieved your Silver Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 18 months.
