Guy's Gift

We are looking for Bereavement Support Group Volunteers to support our work across Coventry and Warwickshire, supported and supervised by the delivery team, to provide bereavement support for children, young people and their families.

Guy’s Gift provides bereavement support for children, young people and their families across Coventry and Warwickshire. Taking our first referrals for support in 2009, we have supported over 4,500 children and young people to process their feelings following a significant bereavement.

The charity was founded in recognition that there wasn’t existing local support for bereaved families in Coventry and Warwickshire, a need which we were able to fulfil. Bereavement Support Groups are an essential part of the support we provide, and we run these both in-person and online. We offer groups for children aged 5-11, teenagers (11+) and for parents/carers.

Key responsibilities:
- Assist in the facilitation of bereavement support groups for children and young people (typically aged 5-18)
- Attend planning (remote) and debrief meetings with the group delivery team
- Working as part of a team to deliver group sessions (over a 5-week period)
- Welcoming families, ensuring they have access to refreshments
- Help create a safe, welcoming and non-judgmental space where participants feel listened to and respected
- Offer emotional support through active listening, empathy and encouragement under the guidance of team leaders
- Support children and young people to engage in group activities, creative/craft work and discussions appropriate to their age and stage of development

Group & Session Support:
- Assist with setting up and clearing away group spaces and resources
- Support group leads during sessions, including managing small group activities
- Be attentive to group dynamics and individual needs, reporting any concerns to the group leads

Safeguarding & Professional Practice:
- Follow organisational policies and procedures, including safeguarding, confidentiality, health and safety, and equality and diversity
- Maintain appropriate boundaries and act as a positive role model at all times
- Report any safeguarding concerns promptly and in line with safeguarding procedures

Administration & Development:
- Attend induction, training, supervision, planning and debrief meetings as required
- Provide feedback to staff to support ongoing service development
