Chairman

Leamington Spa Competitive Festival

You did not enter a postcode in the search, or the postcode for this role is unknown.

The Leamington Spa Competitive Festival (“LSCF”) was formed in 1910 to organise an annual music festival in Leamington. A festival has taken place every year since then with only two exceptions. The festival is a registered charity run entirely by volunteers.
LSCF comprises nine sections (Speech and Drama, Stage Dance, Vocal, Woodwind and Brass, Organ, classical Guitar, Harp, Piano, Strings). Each section is run by a secretary, each of whom is a trustee of the charity, as are the Chair, Treasurer and Secretary.
The Stage Dance competition is held over several days, Organ on a midweek evening during May and the remaining sections in June weekends. Most events take place at sites on the Warwick School campus.
The present chairman is looking to stand down at the October 2027 AGM, having been treasurer or chairman or both for about fifteen years. We are seeking a replacement to work alongside him until then. It is not necessary to be a musician but a love of music is important. Until recently the chairperson has also been a section secretary but experience shows that the role is better filled with no other responsibilities. The chair is expected to attend for part of every competition day and would ideally be willing to help with stewarding.
Good organisational and motivation skills are important as is the ability to identify areas for improvement.
There are about six committee meetings each year plus an AGM in October. More information about the Festival can be found on the website: leamcompfest.co.uk.

The chairman needs to be able to ensure that the Festival's activities are coordinated though all sections are to a degree autonomous. Must be able to get on with people and to ensure that nothing is overlooked.

There is a tremendous satisfaction in being involved with a long established Festival and ensuring it continues. All entrants, their parents and teaches say they love the Festival: ensuring that continues is a massive reward.

Difficult to define this: probably an average of 3/4 hours a week averaged over the year but skewed to Festival time.
