What you will be doing

CPRE Warwickshire exists to protect the county's countryside. Our volunteer planning officers monitor planning applications within a defined area (normally that of a Local Authority such as Warwick District Council or Rugby Borough Council) and where they see a threat to the countryside oppose the application. This is initially done through written objections but on occasions at Planning Committees, Appeals and Public Inquiries. Much of the work required can be done from home with the use of PC or laptop, though it is encouraged to visit the site before completing the response to the application. We have quarterly meetings at our offices in Warwick where officers exchange information and ideas.

Skills Description

What our planning officers need more than anything is a love of the countryside and a desire to protect Warwickshire's precious landscapes. The ownership of and ability to use a computer is necessary as much work can be done via the internet and letters do have to be written to Planning Authorities. Visiting sites is important so the use of a car is necessary. No formal qualifications are required - enthusiasm for the role is more important and full training will be given. However applicants should be aware that planning regulations can be complex so there needs to be a desire to engage and learn.

How Long Do I Have To Volunteer For?

You need to commit to a regular volunteering opportunity of around an hour a week. The table below shows the commitment required for each level of the DofE.

Bronze

Minimum time: 3 or 6 months
