Volunteer Handyperson – Maintenance Support.

The role will provide general support to registered Homeless Charity; Doorway. The post holder will gain an understanding of working in the voluntary sector. The role is to provide maintenance support to Staff, Contractors, Landlords and Young People aged 16 to 25. The services required will cover a range of general maintenance assistance within a domestic and office setting in Warwickshire areas.

To help out around the Doorway office building and units of accommodation, on ‘odd jobs’ to support Staff, Contractors, Landlords and Young People.
The ‘odd jobs’ may include:
• Assemble home, office furniture.
• Move furniture.
• Fix wooden fixtures.
• Install tiles, shelves, cabinets, curtain rails, blinds, etc.
• Gardening maintenance, clean patios/ tidy garden space.
• General maintenance work.
• Paint (using brush, roller or paint sprayer).
• Repair/ replace leaky taps.
• Repair locks on cabinets, doors, drawers or windows.

A Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required if lone working with young people. As this is a practical hands on role with some manual handling, the volunteer should be in good physical health. The minimum age is 18 years. This is due to the nature of the organisation.

Mileage and parking will be paid only on occasions when you are asked to travel somewhere on behalf of Doorway. In order to get the most out of the role and see first hand developement within households/ gardens and with young people’s level of independence gained, it would be be good if you could commit to 3 months. One to one support from a member of staff on a regular basis with formal supervision from the Volunteer Co-ordinator will be offered. All volunteers will receive an induction and familiarity to the Drop-in Centre and their role. Volunteers will have a Volunteer Agreeement, which is a compact drawn up with the Volunteer and Volunteer Co-ordinator in regards to duties and expectations of their role. Volunteers will participate in appropriate mandatory training as required
