What you will be doing

Chase Meadow Community Centre is looking for a volunteer to help at our monthly dementia support group. This takes place on the first Tuesday of the month, between 10-12. The role includes:
- Helping set up the room and prepare refreshments
- Helping to clear away the room at the end of the session
- Welcoming attendees; initiating conversation; making sure everyone feels at ease
- Supporting staff to run activities such as board games or crafts
- Listening and supporting people coming to the group
- Talking to and supporting carers
- Being sensitive and responsive to people's needs
This would be a monthly commitment of approximately 2.5-3 hours, and would suit someone who enjoys talking to people, and who is a good listener, with a warm and engaging manner. Some understanding of dementia would be helpful, but is not required.

How Long Do I Have To Volunteer For?

You need to commit to a regular volunteering opportunity of around an hour a week. The table below shows the commitment required for each level of the DofE.

Bronze

Minimum time: 3 or 6 months

You must do one of your volunteering, Physical or Skills sections for 6 months, the others for 3.

Silver

Minimum time: 6 or 12 months

If you heven't achieved your Bronze Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 12 months.

Gold

Minimum time: 12 or 18 months

If you heven't achieved your Silver Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 18 months.
