What you will be doing

Our volunteer Museum Assistants help us to run the museum on a day-to-day basis, providing a warm welcome to our customers and playing an essential part in our activities.

They are the first point of contact for visitors to the Museum.

Main Duties:
* Open the Museum and prepare it for visitors
* Close the Museum and ensure that the building is properly
secured
* Meet, greet and take care of visitors and briefly explain the
layout of Shackerstone Railway and what is available.
* Deal sympathetically with all visitors and respond to their
enquiries regarding the galleries and the collection
* Sell items from the Museum shop and record items sold
* Gentle cleaning as needed to provide a high standard of
presentation
* To take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves
and others who may be affected by their acts or omissions at
work
* To undertake training as required

How Long Do I Have To Volunteer For?

You need to commit to a regular volunteering opportunity of around an hour a week. The table below shows the commitment required for each level of the DofE.

Bronze

Minimum time: 3 or 6 months

You must do one of your volunteering, Physical or Skills sections for 6 months, the others for 3.

Silver

Minimum time: 6 or 12 months

If you heven't achieved your Bronze Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 12 months.

Gold

Minimum time: 12 or 18 months

If you heven't achieved your Silver Award, you must extend your volunteering or the longer of your Physical or Skills sections to 18 months.
